**UPDATED ON 4/11/2025** – DEADLINE EXTENDED

On March 13, 2025, the South Whatcom Fire Authority (SWFA) Board of Fire Commissioners approved a resolution to place a proposition on the August 5, 2025 Primary Election ballot to “lift the lid” on the current tax levy rate for properties within the Fire Authority boundaries. The proposition would restore the existing levy rate to $1.42 per $1,000 of assessed value.

South Whatcom Fire Authority is seeking individuals to serve on both “For” and “Against” Committees for the ballot measure, in accordance with the requirements of the Whatcom County Auditor’s Office and Washington State law.

Interested members of the public residing within SWFA boundaries should contact Fire Chief Mitch Nolze if interested in serving on either the FOR or AGAINST committees. Interested individuals must contact Chief Nolze no later than April 10, 2025 at 2:00 PM   April 25, 2025 at 2:00 PM. The Commission extended the due date from the original April 10th deadline to allow for more time for community members to engage.
