Community members,

It has been a while since our last update. Below is the update posted in our Winter 2025 community newsletter:

The renovation project for Sudden Valley Fire Station 22 is under way. In accordance with public works project procurement laws, Tiger Construction of Everson, WA, was awarded the general construction contract for the project. Construction began Oct. 6, 2025, with a Spring 2026 projected completion timeline. South Whatcom Fire Authority’s architect and project manager, along with SWFA representatives, regularly meet to discuss developments and progress.

While the catalyst for the project was due to an unexpected fire sprinkler system failure, the renovation of the station and replacement of the fire sprinkler system has been planned for many years. The project includes a modest renovation of existing firefighter living quarters, bathroom reconfiguration and upgrades, emergency station alerting system upgrades, communication and connectivity upgrades, and several functional floor plan changes for limiting carcinogen exposure to our firefighters.

We will be excited to open the new station for a public open house in 2026, with details to be announced as the project completion nears.
